The simultaneous rise of high quality digital phone cameras and photo sharing social media platforms created new global communities that never could have existed before. Designer and photographer Owen Dodd noticed one such community: a group of talented photographers taking pictures on their phones and sharing them online. Instead of documenting autobiographical events, their photos focused on aesthetic details and abstraction. This led him to curate and publish “31mm Vol.1,” a collection of mobile phone photography from 25 artists around the world.

In addition to being asked to contribute some of my photographs of Los Angeles, I also provided consultation on the design and copy editing for this 260-page book, as well as advice on printing techniques, paper selection, and a die-cut cover with postcard inserts.
